A Vendor-Managed-Inventory system works by allowing Buyers and Suppliers to exchange data collaboratively.
Blanket Order Stocking:
This program is best suited for those customers that have an excellent knowledge of the parts that are used consistently on an annual basis. Suppliers will develop a list of all your annual usage and hold those parts in stock until you have requirements for them. This ensures that you will have parts when you need them, especially when requirements come up with little or no notice.
Just in Time (JIT):
This system focuses on delivering inventory to the buyer precisely when it is needed, minimizing excess stock and storage costs. The goal is to synchronize production and delivery with demand, reducing the need for large inventories.
Consignment Stocking:
This program is like the Blank Order Stocking except that the parts are inventoried at the customer's location. Parts will be invoiced as the user uses them. This program cuts down the cost of partial truckloads and rush shipments, reduces inventories to daily levels and is extremely easy to institute and monitor.
VMI Automation:
Technology and software play an important role in monitoring and maintaining inventory levels in an automated VMI System. Without the need for user involvement, automated processes may track usage data, forecast demand and trigger replenishment orders.
Offsite Stocking:
This VMI program is for customers that have a large volume of parts but does not have the space for consignment inventory. The inventory of parts will be located at a warehouse near the users' location, so the parts can be delivered at the user's request based on their stocking agreement.
Bulk VMI:
The supplier manages larger quantities of inventory on behalf of the buyer/user. The Supplier is responsible for restocking products in consignment at less frequent intervals.
Point of Use:
This VMI system is for manufacturers who prefer to maintain inventory as close to the point at which it is used as possible.
Bin Stocking:
There are various customized Bin Stocking VMI programs to meet the unique needs of the user. A Bin Stocking program is all based on the stocking service which will keep your inventory in stock and organized, ensuring that you always have the parts you need when you need them. Bin Stocking reduces lead times, improved inventory management and supply chain efficiency.
KAN BAN:
Kan Ban is a program designed to help users who pick up their orders with their own trucks. With this program, the Supplier will fill special returnable containers with your required parts, ensuring that you always have the inventory you need on hand. When it is time to pick up your next order, you simply drop off the empty containers and the Supplier will refill them for your next visit. This VMI program helps to reduce lead times and minimize inventory costs.
Minimum Inventory:
If you are worried about running out of critical parts, then a Minimum Inventory program will ease your worry. The user provides a minimum stock level for each part with the Supplier. The Supplier will manage the on-hand inventory and automatically create a new production order when it reaches the minimum quantity based on agreed replenishment quantity. This ensures that the user that the Supplier will always have the necessary inventory to keep your production line moving.
